TEJER RAYAS, ¿PASIÓN U OBSESIÓN?

KNITTING STRIPES: A PASSION OR AN OBSESSION?

I admit it, I love knitting stripes. It seems to me a very easy and practical way to give a special touch to garments. A simple contrast stripe on a jacket makes it special, lots of colors make it pure fun.

AITANA VILLA DESIGN:

TAKE IT EASY COLLECTION Vol.3

When I had in my hands these skeins of @pacalaalpaca with a base of 50% suri alpaca and 50% merino not superwash in sport thickness, it was very clear to me that I was going to let myself be carried away by my passion for stripes. This is the result of using two colors that are very contrasting. I am looking forward for the cold weather to return do I can use this shawl daily.

Striped shawl in detail knitting wool yarn design for knitting

While I was knitting this shawl, I was thinking that I wanted to bind it off with stripes of two colours, maybe it is an obsession of mine… So I decided to bind it off with an icord in two colours.

KTT: KNITTING TRICKS AND TECHNIQUES

ICORD BIND OFF IN TWO COLOURS

I think that binding off the icord in the opposite colour combination as I have used in the entire shawl gives it a fun effect. It is the ideal bind off method to add a touch of colour to a monochrome garment or a fun touch to any finish. Whether you have knitted icord before or not, you will see that it is much simpler than it seems.

TODAY WE WILL HAVE A CUP OF TEA AND WE WILL KNIT WITH AITANA VILLA…

ZOA FROM PACA LA ALPACA

Zoa de Paca la Alpaca dye wool Aitana Villa interview
How and when did you start to dye yarn?

In 2017, in my kitchen 🙂

How did you make the leap to dedicate yourself to dyeing yarn professionally?

I was lucky that people liked what I was doing and therefore I was able to dedicate myself to this as a job.

What inspires you to create your colours?

Landscapes, paintings, movies, animals, flowers … everything.

What is your fetish fibre?

Mohair / silk to combine with another fibre.

How has the pandemic affected your company?

During the lockdown I closed for two months. After that it has affected me less as I do not have a physical shop.

Can you show us the fibres I have used for the design?

It is a very soft yarn, with just the right thickness to knit a fast garment but at the same time it does not have a lot of weight. It has the right texture, which makes it fluffy, very pleasant to the touch and glides well on any type of needle. The mixture with suri alpaca provides heat and the merino prevents it from having a lot of drape. And I love the Pearl and Bordeaux color combination, light gray is the perfect neutral color to use with any strong tone like yellows, oranges or reds.

When you were a child, what did you want to be as an adult?

Painter

What would you ask yourself in 20 years?

Tonight’s numbers of the Euromilllions.

If you could travel in time, where would you go: to the pass or to the future?

To the future.

Which animal would you like to be and why?

One of my cats, they live very well.

How would your perfect day be?

Any day which starts without an alarm clock.

Now that you know what the first three shawls of the “TAKE IT EASY” collection look like.

The first, a crescent-shaped shawl with mohair from YARNITAS that ends with the “YARN OVER BIND OFF“.

The second a crescent triangular shawl full of slipped stitches and “PICOT BIND OFF” knitted with the wonderful Ondine base from SOC UNA TROCA.

And today I have shown you this triangular shawl knitted with PACA LA ALPACA’s wool with which you can knit stripes non- stop and close it with a beautiful TWO COLOURED ICORD BIND OFF.

Knitting is an act of love;
therefore, I wish you knit a lot!
